The Chief Lector is the head magician of the House of Life. This position is governed by the most powerful magician in the world. The Chief Lectors role is to serve and protect the Pharaoh, and he takes his place at the foot of the throne. He is the one who holds the crook and flail of the pharaoh. He has the power to summon Sekhmet once during his lifetime. Desjardins used it soon after he became the Chief Lector, as he was never patient. Amos has not used it yet and it is not known if Iskandar used it. They work in the first nome and wears a leopard cloak. In becoming the chief lector, you must be the most powerful magician. And when he or she dies, he or she is then replaced by the second most powerful magician. Meaning, Iskandar was the most powerful magician, followed by Desjardins and Amos Kane.  When Desjardins became the chief lector, Amos Kane was then the second most powerful and Vladimir Menshikov the third most powerful magician. When Desjardins died, Amos became the first most powerful magician or the new chief lector. Since Menshikov died, this made Carter Kane the second most powerful and Sadie Kane the third most powerful. This made the Kane Family rule the entire magician world.
